What if time could bleed? What if memory had teeth?

From myth-soaked villages to haunted futures, Caged Ocean Dub weaves a chorus of girls, gods, ghosts, and glitching timelines. This genre-bending collection of speculative fiction draws from African cosmologies, surreal horror, soft sci-fi, and spiritual mythmaking to tell stories of people caught in the act of becoming; becoming legend, ghost, god, or free.

In “LSD-1842,” a man pilots a dream-powered car through parallel timelines, trying—and failing—to save the woman he loves from the fate that awaits her in every version of reality. In “What Not to Do When Spelunking in Anambra”, a group of friends descend into a sacred cave and return changed, haunted by visions carved into glowing stone. “The Waterwidower” tells of a man who claims the ocean as his bride, his sanity unspooling with the tides. And in “Busola Orange Juice,” a murdered girl returns to sell citrus from the roots of her own grave.

These are stories of inheritance, resistance, and longing, set in cities that remember too much and futures that refuse to forget. Told in sharp, lyrical bursts and rooted in African cosmologies and speculative wonder, Caged Ocean Dub is a bold reimagining of what the short story can hold.

“Dare Segun Falowo superbly crafts each story’s hook, entrancing and luring you into a dream . . .”

—Aurealis

“Falowo’s transporting debut collection combines the fantastical, the spiritual, and the everyday to vivid effect. A writer to watch."

—Publishers Weekly

“I would recommend this short story collection to anyone who is looking for a combination of weirdness, horror and poetry!”

—The British Fantasy Society

“With Caged Ocean Dub, Falowo shines a light into the darkness to reveal vast swathes of untrod narrative territory. Embracing folklore, realism, surrealism, science fiction and even poetry, Falowo’s fearless stories are electrifying, terrifying and a joyous reading experience.”

—Narrative Species

“These are stories that will transport you to changed versions of our world with exquisite prose. Familiar and not. Dark and beautiful and occasionally terrifying they run the gamut from dark fantasy to science fiction to cosmic horror.”

—Wole Talabi

“Dare’s work highlights Nigerian mundanities that we take for granted—buying a cold drink on the street, a mirror in traffic—and distorts them, defamiliarises them, until something true about the human experience—greed, grief, loneliness—is reflected back to us, indicting us. We can’t look away. With language that sparkles and terrifies, Dare’s enchanted, inventive stories blur and fracture the boundaries between the real and the tactile horrors of our fears.”

—‘Pemi Aguda
