‘Rich, warm, powerful storytelling.’

Jomi’s mum left when he was little to make a new life for them in Lagos, the city of dreams.

After months pass with no word from her, Jomi sets out for the big city with only a friendly bush baby, a crew of street kids he meets, and a wild idea of how to find his mother: auditioning for the dance show she always watches.

A standout, richly layered story of perseverance, creativity, joy and love, for readers of 8 and up.

Efua Traoré

Efua Traoré is a Nigerian-German author who grew up in a small town in Nigeria. For as long as she can remember, her head was filled with little stories, but it was not until much later that she began to write them down. Apart from Nigeria, she has also lived in France and Germany and she writes in English and in German. If she had her way, she would travel much more and write every single day. Children of the Quicksands is her debut novel, which won the Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition in 2019. She lives in Munich with her husband and three daughters.
